I Got to Be Me

I was 5 or 6 when my mom and dad put me in Girl Scouts. I wish I could remember my troop name and if I was a Daisy or a Brownie, I only know that that year or two I had in Girl Scouts was most precious to me and from it I gained all my ideas and beliefs. My parents fought like cats and dogs and we were poor. When I was at home, I was stressed out and worried about my brother and sister, and all the fighting my parents were doing. When I was at my Girl Scout meetings, I got to be me and I felt very connected and knew that was what love was all about. Because of Girl Scouts, I knew what love was and I still hold that in my heart.

I was crushed when things got so bad that my parents didn't have the time or money to put me back in Girl Scouts and had to take me out. I still consider myself a Girl Scout and always will. I hope to have a little girl someday and put her in Girl Scouts and keep her in it for as long as she wants. In fact, if anyone can tell me what troop I was in I would really appreciate it. All I have from that time is a couple of pictures and a pin. My name was Tiffany Bell and my meetings were held at Hillsdale Elementary School in Shreveport, La. I was born in 1980, so it might have been the year 1985 or 1986.
