2005 National Council Session —
A Milestone for the Movement!
Out-of-the-Box Ideas from Councils
The newly elected National Chair of the Board Patricia Diaz Dennis opens the issue with an inspiring essay on the jewel-like qualities inherent within every girl and how Girl Scouts helps each one sparkle in her own way. Following is the first column for LEADER from Chief Executive Officer Kathy Cloninger. Kathy introduces the new mission statement of Girl Scouting, and how it will benefit and invigorate the Girl Scout Movement.
The centerpiece of this issue is a six-page section about the 2005 National Council Session— A Milestone in Girl Scouting! (October 7–11, 2005). You'll get the full flavor of what happened when 13,000-plus adults, girls, vendors, exhibitors, family members and other interested parties converged in a sea of green to get an update on what's happening in Girl Scouts, and council delegates decided where we are headed in the future. And, where we are headed is through a major transformation from which we will all emerge FOR ALL GIRLS: SOARING BEYOND GREATNESS, which was the theme of this event.
Also in this issue are articles highlighting how Girl Scout leaders are evolving into advisory roles for older Girl Scouts, how councils are implementing out-of-the-box ways of delivering program, delivering service (literally by truck), and other practical how-to's and good advice shared from volunteers and council staff across the country. "What's My Role?," "For Keeps!," and "On the Road: Portable Service Centers" are fascinating features you just can't miss!
