Festivities Scheduled for October 13–16, 2006 2006: A Year of Anniversaries. While 2006 is the 50th anniversary of the dedication of The Birthplace, it is also the 40th anniversary of its designation as a National Historic Landmark, and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts in Savannah. Festivities marking these milestones will be held at The Birthplace in Savannah October 13–16. The celebration is titled "Remember the Past, Honor the Future." Featured events will include:
Savannah features other historic Girl Scout sites, including Juliette Gordon Low's grave and the Andrew Low House, where she lived after her marriage and which is the site of the First Headquarters. Historic homes and museums adorn the city, and there are numerous tours by bus, boat, and old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage. Hours and Reservations. Monday–Saturday, 10–4; Sundays 11–4; closed the first two weeks of January. Tours every 20 to 30 minutes. Reservations required for troop visits and Special Interest sessions, and should be made directly by the troop leader or parent.
