5 Activities for You and Your Girl to Try Today

That last couple of days before the holiday break ends and she goes back to school! A rainy Saturday afternoon. A day where you’re just not into any more screen time OR you want to use screen time to do something that’s both fun and valuable. Need some suggestions? Try one of these fun activities with your daughter or the girl in your life:

  1. Take a nature walk.

You don’t need to head out into the deep woods—the local park or somewhere you both enjoy will do just fine. Don’t forget to pack your favorite snacks for the road. Looking for an easy, on-the-go idea? Try our Apple Snacks or our Walking Salad.

  2. Share your inspiration.

Talk to her about your role models or women you admire and ask her about the people who inspire her. Family members, friends, famous women in history—they’re all great choices. Encourage her to cut out pictures or draw. This booklet should help you get started (and leave her with something that reminds her of your special talk).

  3. Turn your living room into an improv theater.

What does she want to be when she grows up? You might not need to answer that yet, but let her try some options out for the next five minutes. Get started with the Scene Spinner.

  4. Get your science on in the backyard.

It’s amazing what wonders even the smallest outdoor spaces hold. Help her discover how much she can find by using our Flower Census or our Bug Census. Don’t forget to hit the computer and put your “field guide” together first. If you want to do more, head for the local nature preserve.

  5. Take a game break or make some online art.

For days when you think she’s had enough of her usual games on the phone or on the tablet but a few more minutes of screen time might help you catch your breath, try our Kaleidoscope Maker, our Drag and Drop Art Tool, our Paw Print Memory Game or our Sports Matching Game.

Happiness. Confidence. Adventures. New Experiences.

With Girl Scouts, she'll get all those and more. She'll know she's having fun, but you'll know she's gaining:

  • Important financial literacy skills (Math, anyone?) as she participates in the largest girl-run business in the world—the Girl Scout Cookie Program
  • Healthy relationship skills that will help her navigate through her school years, especially as she moves into middle school and high school
  • Skills that will help her in science classes as she builds robots, conducts fun experiments with her friends, or explores the natural world around her
  • Leadership skills that will make it easier for her to speak up in class and advocate for herself and others

We measure what girls gain as they move through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, a set of activities and experiences designed to deliver specific benefits to girls at every age level.

Underneath the fun, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is working to help girls:

  • Develop a strong sense of self
  • Develop positive values
  • Gain practical life skills
  • Seek challenges in the world
  • Develop critical thinking skills
  • Develop healthy relationships
  • Promote cooperation and team building
  • Resolve conflicts
  • Advance diversity in a multicultural world
  • Feel connected to their communities, locally and globally
  • Identify community needs
  • Become resourceful problem solvers
  • Advocate for themselves and for others, locally and globally
  • Educate and inspire others to act
  • Feel empowered to make a difference in the world

And it doesn't stop there. In addition to the benefits that will help her in every area of her life, being a Girl Scout can help her excel in every subject at school.
