Edith Macy Participants
and Scholarship/Grant Recipients

In 2006, Girl Scouts served 920 participants at the Edith Macy Conference Center.  Participants were from 256 councils (82% of the councils; 881 participants), several overseas affiliates (13 participants) as well as GSUSA staff at GSUSA (4 participants).

During 2006, Girl Scouts offered:

  • Four conferences and 48 unique courses (several courses were offered multiple times, including Membership Fundamentals, New Presidents/Chairs: Leading High Performance Councils; IT courses are not included in this count)
  • Four inquiry and action events

The EEO representation in these courses and events was:

  • Asian American (5 participants, 1%)
  • African American (55 participants, 6%)
  • American Indian (6 participants, 1%)
  • White Hispanic (48 participants, 5%)
  • Other Hispanic (0)
  • White (508 participants, 54%)
  • Other (17 participants, 2%)
  • Not Available (281 people, 31%)

Edith Macy course/event facilitators in FY2006 were:

  • Asian American (2% or 4 facilitators)
  • African American (21% or 41 facilitators)
  • American Indian (1% or 1 facilitator)
  • Hispanic (5% or 9 facilitators)
  • White Hispanic (5% or 10 facilitators)
  • White (66%), (Facilitators = 130)

2006 Travel Scholarship EEO Representation Highlights

In 2006, Girl Scouts awarded $335,285.21 in travel scholarships to Girl Scout council participants of Edith Macy courses and events.  Six hundred fourteen travel scholarships were awarded (average award amount was $546.07).  Edith Macy participants came from 229 councils (74% of all councils). 

Travel Scholarship recipients were:

  • Asian American (2%)
  • African American (10%)
  • American Indian (<1%)
  • Hispanic (2%)
  • White (83%)
  • Other (<1%)
  • Not Available (3%)

2006 Grants for Study EEO Representation Highlights

In 2006, Girl Scouts awarded $51,265.49 in Grants for Study grants; $31,165.00 of that amount was provided to 110 council staff (average award amount was $283.31) and $20,100.49 was provided to 36 GSUSA staff (average award amount was $558.34). The total amount budgeted for this program is $80,000.00, divided equally between council and GSUSA staff.

Council Staff recipients of Grants for Study were:

  • Asian American (2%), (grant awardees = 2), (total grant awarded = $599.00)
  • African American, (3%) (grant awardees = 3), (total grant awarded = $684.00)
  • American Indian (None)
  • Hispanic (14%), (grant awardees = 15), (total grant awarded = $3,288.00)
  • White (73%), (grant awardees = 81), (total grant awarded = $23,156.50)
  • Other (1%), (grant awardees = 1), (total grant awarded = $195.00)
  • Not Available (7%), (grant awardees = 8), (total grant awarded = $3,242.50)

GSUSA staff recipients of Grants for Study awards were:

  • Asian American (6%), (grant awardees = 2), (total grant awarded = $825.00)
  • African American (25%), (grant awardees = 9), (total grant awarded = $5,142.00)
  • American Indian (3%), (grant awardees = 1), (total grant awarded = $750.00)
  • Hispanic (8%), (grant awardees = 3), (total grant awarded = $1,128.00)
  • White (44%), (grant awardees = 16), (total grant awarded = $9,210.49)
  • Other (8%), (grant awardees = 3), (total grant awarded = $1,545.00)
  • Not Available (6%), (grant awardees = 2), (total grant awarded = $1,500.00)
