Are you ready to train like an astronaut? Experience complex engineering challenges, out-of-this-world shuttle missions and trainings, extreme astronaut training simulators, and a chance to prove your leadership and teamwork skills on our Area 51 Leadership Reaction Course.

Picture It

You, along with 15 other Girl Scouts, will journey for six days through the ultimate Space Camp® experience. This is our most challenging program offered at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center® in Huntsville, Alabama. Earn Your Wings and join our over 540,000 Space Camp alumni community! Over 32,000 trainees complete our program every year and go on to become scientists, doctors, teachers, engineers and even astronauts. Do you have what it takes to be “The Right Stuff?” Find out at Space Camp!

Are you a Mission Specialist or a Pilot? In mission specialist track, spacewalk to repair a satellite, command the I.S.S., and brief the public during your shuttle missions. Test your skills at the bottom of our Underwater Astronaut Trainer (UAT) during your SCUBA session. In pilot track, launch the shuttle, reboost the space station into orbit, and lead the mission as Flight Director during you shuttle missions. Test your pilot skills at Aviation Challenge on our F-18 Hornet simulators and experience 3.2 G’s in our Centrifuge.

Will your custom rocket design launch successfully? What does it take to create a radiation resistant space suit? You and your engineering team will spend the week solving all of these problems and more! Come as an individual and leave as a team with life-long friends from all over the country! Advanced Space Academy® is a college accredited program through the University of Alabama in Huntsville. One credit of general science is awarded to those who complete the program.

Be It

  • An interest in space and science
  • Participants in the Mission Specialist track must submit a SCUBA form that is signed by a physician. Forms that are not properly filled out will prevent participants from diving. Certain health conditions will prevent participants from diving. Such conditions include but are not limited to asthma and epilepsy.

Plan It

  • June 30, 2013–July 5, 2013; $875
    Participants need to arrive by 1-2pm pm CST on 6/30 and depart after noon on 7/5. Additional travel information will be in the confirmation packet.
    Must be 15–18 years old at the time of the event.

Get It

A detailed packing list is contained in the confirmation kit you receive upon acceptance to this event.

$ It

A $250 deposit will be due immediately upon notification of acceptance to this event. This deposit will be put towards the total tuition cost and is not in addition to it.

There is a $25 round-trip transportation fee per girl from the Huntsville International Airport to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Parents are welcome to drive participants to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center for check-in and pick them up after graduation. Meals and lodging are included in the tuition. Each girl will receive a t-shirt and team photo as part of her tuition.

 

Note:

Two adult chaperones are needed for this event. If selected, travel expenses to and from Huntsville, AL will be the chaperones responsibility. Lodging and meals will be provided. Adult chaperones of this event will take photos and video of the participants in activities and observe the girls interaction. This position requires the ability to walk long distances in summer temperatures. Hours of daily event activities are 7AM to 11 PM. Chaperones must provide contact information to programs’ health and first aid staff for the duration of the event.
