During this expedition, you will experience the hustle and bustle of Iquitos, one of the largest cities in the Amazon basin, as well as immerse yourself in the slower lifestyle of rural river communities. Along the way, you will search for pink river dolphins, barter for Yagua handicrafts, fish for piranha, experience one of the longest canopy walkways on the planet alongside a scientist, engage in meaningful service work and ponder the issues facing rainforest conservation and the true meaning Picture It This expedition combines science, cross-cultural exchange, leadership development and service, providing a truly unforgettable experience. Your 10-day adventure begins in the city of Miami where you will meet your fellow travelers. From there, you will fly to Iquitos where you will be greeted by Peruvian scouts and spend an afternoon sharing your culture with one another. Trade the noise of motorcycles for toucans and monkeys as you visit three different Amazon lodges. At each location, you’ll experience the rich diversity through different hands-on workshops designed to teach you new things while at the same time providing the most fun of your entire life! A few sample workshops include: ethnobotany with a shaman, moonlight boat float, sunrise canopy walkway hike, river “mud baths”, piranha fishing, service project with locals, rural health clinic visit, early morning bird-watching, hands-on data collection, and handicraft bartering. Program fee includes: domestic airfare from Lima to Iquitos, all transportation, food, drinking water, lodging once in Iquitos, individual bed for every participant, world-class guides and expedition leaders, tips, entrance fees, t-shirts, journal, handbook, basic travel insurance and carbon offsets You are responsible for: Round-trip airfare to Lima, Peru, passport fees, meals while in transit on travel days, immunization fees (if you choose to get them), personal spending money, airline fees, expenses as a result of circumstances that fall outside of Global Explorers’ control (e.g., flight delays).
