Competition for jobs is always high—there are tons of smart, motivated people out there.  The key is to believe you are the best person for the job, and make an employer believe it too! Usually, the first step is to send a cover letter and resume or submit an application.

On an application, you’ll have to fill out some basic information, like your address and phone number. There may also be a space to fill in any past work experiences. Even if you don’t think that things like babysitting or doing errands for a neighbor aren’t officially jobs, they still show that you are responsible and a hard worker. Don’t hesitate to list them.

Your new boss-to-be may also ask for references from teachers, former employers, or other adults who can tell her what a great addition you’ll be. Just make sure that the people you mention know to expect the phone call—then they’ll be ready to say all the right things.
