Washington, D.C. — In celebration of Girls Scouts of the USA's (GSUSA) 95th Anniversary, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP will be honored at the Girl Scout Sing-Along event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on June 9 for the firm's dedication and contribution to helping GSUSA revitalize the organization nationwide.

As the sole national legal pro bono counsel advising on all matters pertaining to the unprecedented nationwide restructuring, Gibson Dunn represents councils’ interests, including realigning 312 local councils into 109 high-performance, community-based councils. The restructuring is designed to revitalize the Girl Scout brand, create new fund-raising models, improve volunteer systems and realign the national Girl Scout council infrastructure. This project will span over several years to complete.

"Little did I know that when Stephanie Tsacoumis, co-managing partner for Gibson Dunn in D.C., joined our council’s Advisory Board that her firm would end up providing pro bono legal services for the entire Girl Scout organization," commented Jan Verhage, CEO, Girl Scouts of Nation’s Capital. "What started out as a simple phone call for advice has resulted in Gibson Dunn donating thousands of hours of legal services since April 2007 valued in millions of dollars. There really aren’t sufficient words to thank Stephanie and all her colleagues."

"It's such an honor to be helping the Girl Scouts achieve its goal of meeting the needs of each new generation of girls," said Tsacoumis. "Gibson Dunn hopes the legal advice we are providing on the realignment project will help ensure the Girl Scouts’ future success and growth."

Gibson Dunn has provided counsel in several areas, including: state law and applicable requirements; drafting merger agreements and merger filings; providing support to councils in obtaining required board and member approvals, ascertaining the impact on material contracts and addressing unique council issues.

“The support of Gibson Dunn to the Connecticut Realignment Committee has been exceptional. The firm provided us with templates for articles of incorporation and bylaws for our new council — the Girl Scouts of Connecticut. The staff worked with us as we reviewed documents, sometimes with extraordinarily tight deadlines, and was always there to answer our questions along the way.  Thanks to the services of Gibson Dunn, the Girl Scouts of Connecticut will have many more dollars to bring the Girl Scout program to the girls of Connecticut," commented Lynne Raymond, CEO, Girl Scouts of Housatonic Council and co-chair of the Connecticut Realignment Committee.

As a special thanks for their work, Stephanie Tsacoumis and other representatives of the law firm will be joined by thousands of girls from all 50 states and eight countries ranging from Scotland to Russia to Australia by taking center stage at "Still Singing After All These Years," a Girl Scout Sing-Along on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in celebration of the 95th Anniversary of this iconic organization.

In addition to the Girl Scout Sing-Along, hundreds of council representatives will join Kathy Cloninger, CEO and Patricia Diaz Dennis, Chair National Board for a number of business-related sessions, and a formal banquet honoring retiring council CEOs and recognizing 13 Girl Scout Gold Award recipients across the country as the 2007 Young Women of Distinction.
