Where to Place Insignia on a Uniform
Girl Scout Adults (Ages 18 and Up)

The official uniform for adults is navy blue business attire worn with an official scarf and membership pins for women, and the tie to men.

1. Adult Girl Scout Insignia Tab

Official Adult Insignia Tab. Grosgrain top stitched insignia tab. Easy to use pin backing makes "official" occasions easy. Imported.

2. World Trefoil Pin (WAGGGS pin)

The Word Trefoil Pin Shows that you are part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). All Girl Scouts wear this pin on the left side of the uniform directly above the Membership Pin on the Insignia Tab.

3. Adult Position Pin

An adult position bar indicates the present position of a volunteer in the Girl Scout organization. Worn centered between membership pin and World Trefoil Pin. A maximum of two position pins may be worn on the uniform jacket or blouse, side by side, centered between pins above and below. On adult insignia tab, place pins one above the other. Senior Girls serving as leaders wear the yellow pin between the World Trefoil pin and the membership pin.

4. Official Girl Scout Contemporary Membership Pin

This pin, worn by Junior Girl Scouts, Girl Scouts 11-17 and Adult Girl Scouts. signifies fulfillment of membership requirements. A Girl Scout can choose between this or the Traditional Membership Pin 09001. It is worn on the Insignia Tab on the left side of the uniform, centered above the heart. Safety Catch Pin.

5. Membership Numeral Guards

The numerals show the total number of years (not necessarily continuous or consecutive) of registered membership, both as a girl and an adult, in any Girl Scout/Girl Guide organization. Numeral Guards are attached to the Official Girl Scout Membership Pins (regular or miniature size), and are placed to the right of the pin on clothing or on the insignia tab. The five-year numeral guard replaces five membership stars: a ten-year guard replaces ten membership stars.

6. Campus Girl Scout Guard

Indicates membership in a certified Campus Girl Scout group. Pin with guard chain.

7. Gold Award Pin - Gold Filled

The Girl Scout Gold Award Pin is the highest award for Girls 14-17 and signifies completion of a Gold Award project. (Contact your local Girl Scout council for further information).

8. Bridge to Adult Girl Scouts Award

Moving from one Girl Scout age level to another is called bridging. This pin signifies completion, as a Senior Girl Scout, of specified commitment to Girl Scouting.

9. Years of Service Pin

This pin is given to adults in Girl Scouting in recognition of his or her adult years of service at five-year intervals. Worn on the right side, below personalized identification pin or centered below ID pin, in absence of Girl Scout Gold Award or First Class pin. 3/4".

10. Outstanding Volunteer Award Pin

This award is given only once to an adult in a position other than a troop leader for service to a geographic area or program delivery audience that is beyond the expectations for the position. Worn on the right side of uniform, below personalized identification pin or centered below ID pin, or on either side of the years of service pin. 7/8" round, clutchback.

11. Outstanding Leader Award Pin

This award is given only once to recognize outstanding troop leadership in the delivery of Girl Scout program to girls, meriting recognition by geographic/service team. Worn on the right side of uniform, below personalized identification pin or centered below ID pin, or on either side of the years of service pin.

12. Personalized I.D. Pin

The personalized pins are Direct Ship (special order) items and available for purchase through individual Girl Scout councils only.

13. Lifetime Membership Pin

Wreath design and "Lifetime Member" surrounding logo. A 3 pt. simulated diamond is set in center of wreath.3/4" diameter.The Lifetime Membership pin may be worn by any adult who is a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of the USA. It may be purchased or given as a gift to any lifetime member. Gold-filled disc, worn on the right side of the uniform above the personalized identification pin. May also be worn to the right of the Appreciation/Honor/Thanks Badge. This pin may be worn on clothing other than the uniform as well. Does not replace the Girl Scout membership pin.

14. Appreciation Pin

This pin is given only once to recognize outstanding service to a geographic area or program delivery audience that furthers the council's goals. 1/2".

15. Thanks Badge Gold Filled

This award is given only once to recognize exceptional service that benefits the total council or the entire Girl Scout movement. Gold-filled and enamel medallion on grosgrain ribbon. Safety catch closure.

16. Thanks Badge II

The Thanks Badge II - for Continuing Service - is similar to the Thanks Badge but recognizes continued outstanding service given by a Thanks Badge recipient that benefits the total council or the entire Girl Scout movement. Worn instead of, not in addition to the Thanks Badge. 5/8" gold-filled.

17. Honor Pin

This award is given only once to recognize outstanding service to two or more geographic areas or program delivery audiences. 5/8".

18. Girl Scout Traditional Membership Pin

This pin, worn by Junior Girl Scouts, Girl Scouts 11-17 and Adult Girl Scouts. signifies fulfillment of membership requirements. A Girl Scout can choose between this or the Contemporary Membership Pin 09002. It is worn on the Insignia Tab on the left side of the uniform, centered above the heart. Safety Catch Pin.

19. Participation Patches and Pins

Place participation patches and pins on the back of the sash or vest, beginning at the top, below the shoulder line. These patches and pins may be from camp, special events, or programs such as GirlSports or Issues for Girl Scouts. Patches/pins earned at an earlier age-level can be placed on the back of the sash, but it is not recommended, as you will soon run out of space!

20. Religious Awards and Other Awards

Wear these awards in a single horizontal row on the right side of the uniform blouse, level with the Girl Scout Membership Pin, or on the insignia sash in the area below the membership stars or troop numerals and above the next insignia already on the sash.

Note: Wear only three such awards at a time to avoid a cluttered shirt or uniform. Choose to wear those that are most meaningful to you.

Such special awards might include:

  • Girl Scout Bronze Award
  • International Friendship Recognition Pin (earned as a Girl Scout in USA Girl Scouts Overseas). Note: Although this pin can be earned in more than one country, a girl wears only one pin.
  • Juliette Low World Friendship Pin (given to any girl or adult who has participated in an international opportunity funded by the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund)
  • Lifesaving awards
  • Macy Pin (given to those who participate in a learning event at Girl Scouts of the USA's Edith Macy Conference Center)
  • Pins designating attendance at World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts centers and national or international events
  • The President's Volunteer Service Award
  • Religious awards
  • Safety Award for Girls 11-17
