Defining Success
American Women, Achievement, and the Girl Scouts
By Girl Scouts of the USA (New York, N.Y.: GSUSA, 1999). 147 pp. (Executive Summary, 11 pp.)
Conducted by Louis Harris and Associates, Inc. for Girl Scouts of the USA, this study identified American women's perceptions of the core ingredients for a successful life and the key influences on that success. It examined:
- How women with substantial professional accomplishments compared with women in general
- How girls and women could look to various models of achievement in the workplace and elsewhere to become successful in their own lives.
The study also assessed in what ways, and to what extent, Girl Scouting was seen as having contributed positively to women's lives, self-perceptions and values.
