Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) was officially recognized as a member of Troop Capitol Hill on November 18, 2005. The Public Policy and Advocacy office arranged a pinning ceremony and Melissa, a Senior Girl Scout from the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital, did the honors. The event was attended by the Congresswoman’s husband and children, including her daughter who is a Girl Scout.
Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz is an excellent role model for girls. In 1992, at age 26, she made history as the youngest woman ever elected to the Florida state legislature. Her concern for children and working families first motivated her to run for office and she continues to work on important issues like education and health care in the U.S. Congress. Despite now commuting to Washington, D.C., for work, she continues to serve as a co-leader for a Girl Scout troop back home in Broward County, Florida.
Troop Capitol Hill is a bipartisan delegation of women members of Congress, established by the Public Policy and Advocacy office to strengthen Girl Scouts partnerships with Congress and further efforts to address issues affecting girls and young women on Capitol Hill.
