Motion Pictures Association of America hosts a Conversation on the Portrayal of Women and Girls in the Media

November 29, 2012 — Maggie Burgos from Girl Scouts of the Nation's Capitol was asked to join Deborah Taylor Tate, Co-Chair of the Healthy Media Commission and Ann Hornaday, Film Critic for The Washington Post, in a panel to discuss the portrayal of women and girls in the media at an event hosted by the Motion Pictures Association of America in Washington, DC.

The event celebrated the recent release of The Report and Recommendations of the Healthy Media Commission for Positive Images of Women and Girls, and emphasized the responsibility everyone has in promoting a more gender neutral media. Maggie, who is currently working on completing her Gold Award Project on healthy media, shared how the media impacted her personally growing up, and explained that through her Gold Award Project she hopes to teach middle school girls to be more critical and savvy consumers of media.
