Girl Scouts of the USA is a proud recipient of continuing support from Lockheed Martin for the Lockheed Martin Science Career Exploration Fund, which encourages girls to develop an early interest in math, science, and technology and to maintain this interest as they mature. In addition, Lockheed Martin became one of the major sponsors of the 2005 Girl Scouts National Council Session/50th Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Lockheed Martin's dedication to supporting educational initiatives that help children reach their greatest potential is evidenced by its continued support of Girl Scouts of the USA and its co-sponsorship of the Girls Go Tech booth.

The Lockheed Martin Science Career Exploration Fund provides unprecedented opportunities for girls to explore science, mathematics, engineering, and technology in a supportive, hands-on, and noncompetitive environment. The collaboration teaches girls about science-related subjects while nurturing the future generation of scientific leaders prepared to meet the growing need for skilled science and technology professionals. Studies show that without direct influence from parents, teachers, and mentors, girls lose interest in science and conform to conventional attitudes about their academic strengths.

Through the Lockheed Martin Science Career Exploration Fund, Girl Scouts of the USA provides grants to Girl Scout councils that enable Girl Scouts, ages 8-17, to learn about careers in science and technology. The council grants provide opportunities for girls to attend career fairs, take part in Space Day, visit geological sites, and design Web sites. From space journey simulations and archaeological digs to marine education and online mentoring, projects have been innovative, interesting, and inspirational.

Lockheed Martin is a premier systems integrator principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin employs 130,000 people worldwide. Distinguished by whole-system thinking and action, a passion for invention and disciplined performance, Lockheed Martin strives to earn a reputation as the partner of choice, supplier of choice, and employer of choice in the global marketplace.
