Mutual of America, a firm dedicated to helping individuals meet their long-term financial objectives, partners with Girl Scouts of the USA to teach financial literacy skills to girls across the country. In addition, Mutual of America is a Gold Level Sponsor of the 95th Anniversary Celebration.
Through the multi-year curricula, girls learn and implement key concepts and skills related to personal money management. Statistics show that 90% of all women will be solely responsible for their own financial self-sufficiency at some point in their lives. The ability of girls and young women to earn an income, become responsible consumers, create and manage a budget, and save and invest for future goals is crucial.
The Penny Project is Girl Scouts' financial literacy curriculum for Brownies, girls ages 6-8, which uses an interactive educational approach to help girls gain an understanding of money and the responsibility that goes with it. Funded by Mutual of America, The Penny Project kit includes an activity booklet, council guide, adult guide, game board, game cards, and three posters.
The CentsAbility curriculum enables girls ages 8 to 14 to take charge of their financial futures by developing important skills early, including personal money management, investing, and entrepreneurship. As they explore the relationship between lifestyle and occupational choices and imagine themselves as adults, they learn the all-important balancing act between income and expenses as they create and balance their budgets.
Got Money? A Saving & Investing Booklet for Girls Ages 11-17, also available in a Spanish-language edition, encourages girls to develop a financial strategy early. Got Money? takes 'tween and teen girls step-by-step through the entire process of saving and investing.
