The NASDAQ Educational Foundation collaborates with Girl Scouts of the USA to promote Financial Markets Literacy by teaching girls about wealth building, financial markets, money management, and how to actively participate in the their own economic futures. The NASDAQ Educational Foundation supports projects that engage in and promote innovative thinking and learning about the role of capital formation and financial markets in a free enterprise system.

Teens in the United States have a significant financial presence; in 2001 they were estimated to have spent $172 billion. Yet research shows that teens lack the skills to fully understand how to save and invest their finances responsibly. The ability of girls and young women to manage their own income and become responsible consumers is particularly crucial, as statistics demonstrate that 90 percent of all women will be solely responsible for their own financial self-sufficiency at some point in their lives.

The NASDAQ Educational Foundation funds Girl Scouts of the USA to promote the GSUSA/NASDAQ Financial Literacy Program. The program was devised to provide local Girl Scout councils and adult volunteers with materials and guidance to work with girls, ages 11 to 17, on financial literacy education projects. Through this collaboration, Girl Scout councils implement a dynamic saving and investing curriculum, introduce a saving and investment booklet and other financial literacy resources to girls across the country, provide specialized saving and investing training to adult volunteers, and create volunteer opportunities for NASDAQ employees.

In collaboration with the Securities Industry Foundation for Economic Education (SIFEE), NASDAQ enables local Girl Scout councils to participate in The Stock Market Game, a hands-on online stock market experience which gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in a real-time portfolio. Girl Scouts from participating councils have the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned through the GSUSA/NASDAQ Financial Literacy Program at Financial Leadership Institutes, an intensive 3 to 6 day leadership development training program.

Since its debut in 1971 as the world's first electronic stock market, The NASDAQ Stock Market has been at the forefront of innovation, using technology to bring millions of investors together with the world's leading companies. Today, NASDAQ is the world's largest electronic stock market, listing approximately 3,600 of the world's most innovative companies. The NASDAQ Stock Market Educational Foundation, Inc. was established in 1994 and is supported entirely by contributions from The NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc.
