The First State's First Lady a Woman of Distinction

March 13, 2012 — Delaware First Lady Carla Markell was honored as the 13th Annual Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay. This event brought together Delaware leaders and outstanding young women to celebrate the significant contributions made by women to their communities and professions.

A long time advocate of the arts and volunteerism, Mrs. Markell was recognized specifically for her commitment to improving the lives of at-risk children through mentoring. Governor Markell and several members of the cabinet attended the ceremony along with University of Delaware officials and leaders in the local business and non-profit communities.

The Women of Distinction ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate and honor the achievements of national and local professional women who are role models for the next generation of women leaders. Honorees, highlighted local women, business and community leaders have an opportunity to interact with Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, future leaders themselves, who have an active role in this annual event.
