The Healthy Media for Youth Summit

On October 6, 2010, Girl Scouts of the USA, the National Association of Broadcasters, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, and The Creative Coalition hosted the first ever Healthy Media for Youth Summit (See the Agenda PDF) on Capitol Hill.  At this invitation-only event, over 130 leaders from the entertainment, media, youth-serving, public policy, and education communities came together with Academy Award-winning actress Geena Davis to identify ways to promote healthy, positive images of girls and women.

Attendees heard from a diverse group of youth experts, media leaders, girls, and outstanding celebrity advocates.  The energy, enthusiasm and collaborative spirit of the attendees was palpable, and the Summit partners are more excited than ever about this ongoing work.

Through this first-of-its-kind event, we launched three projects to continue the momentum: the Watch What You Watch PSA, the Blue Ribbon Commission on Healthy Media for Youth, and Community Conversations with Girl Scout councils across the country.
