Happy Trails: July 19–August 1, 2026

Have you ever wanted to go camping with horses? Do you love scenic mountain landscapes and exploring historic cities? Then come join us at the Happy Trails Destination!

About the Trip

This two-week destination will focus on forming relationships with both horses and humans, through learning about horse care and team building exercises. During your first week, we’ll spend half days in the equestrian center, practicing your riding skills and learning about our horse partners. Time outside of the barn will focus on your choice of activities all around camp—from canoeing, climbing our challenge tower to more relaxed activities such as arts and crafts or board games.

The second week is where the real fun begins! Extended trail rides, pack out lunches, and an overnight trail (that’s where the camping with horses comes in!) Time not spent with our horse friends will include day trips to Chattanooga, TN, Atlanta, GA, and Blue Ridge, GA to explore historic landmarks, hiking trails, and other attractions these beautiful cities have to offer.

This Destination is meant for rising 7th through 11th graders that are comfortable around horses. You are ready for this Destination when you can control the horse at the trot and you are working on cantering.

Who Should Apply?

  • Age: Girl Scouts entering grades 7–11
  • Interests: Horseback riding, camping, hiking
  • Requirements: Camping experience. Comfortable controlling the horse at the trot and working on cantering. Riding consistently in a horseback riding program is a plus.
  • Equipment: Blue jeans or riding pants and half chaps are required. Bringing other riding gear such as boots and a helmet is encouraged, but not required. Camp Misty Mountain has boots and helmets that you can borrow.
  • Ignite Your Passion! This trip is great for Girl Scouts who are interested in horses and environmental conservation.
