From river kayaking, snorkeling, and surfing lessons to exploring ancient underground caves and learning about endangered sea turtles, this epic nine-day Girl Scout expedition tracks the wild journey of water from Austin straight to the Texas coast. Your ultimate outdoor adventure starts here - no experience required!

 

About the Trip

Flow: From Spring to Sea is an epic nine-day Girl Scout expedition tracing the wild journey of water from Austin's ancient karst springs to the Texas Gulf Coast. Stopping in San Marcos, Galveston, Port Aransas, and Padre Island National Seashore, participants will try rugged high-adventure thrills like river kayaking, snorkeling, and surfing - no experience needed!

They will also dive into hands-on marine science aboard a university research vessel, plant native vegetation to restore fragile coastal marshes, explore a cave carved millions of years ago by an underground river, and study endangered sea turtles—growing into the next generation of fearless conservation leaders.

 

Who Should Apply?

  • Age: Girl Scouts entering grades 7-10 at the time of the trip.

  • Interests: Marine Science, conservation, and environmental science.

  • Requirements: Swimming proficiency & confidence in water: A standard swim check/test will be required prior to the trip. Physical stamina for adventure activities: Candidates should be prepared for active, physically demanding days in varying outdoor conditions (including Texas summer heat). No experience is is required, but a positive attitude toward trying rugged outdoor challenges is a must. Adaptability & an open mind: Outdoor adventures mean dealing with changing weather, unexpected schedule shifts, and stepping outside of comfort zones!

  • Equipment: A full packing list will be provided after acceptance.

  • Ignite Your Passion! Perfect for Girl Scouts who are curious about marine life, conservation, and hands-on outdoor adventure.

 

The Cost

Total value of the experience: $2,000

Thanks to generous Girl Scout donors, we are excited to share that each participant accepted to this trip will receive a 20% discount, reducing the cost by $400. No extra steps needed — the grant is automatically applied once you're accepted!

You pay: $1,600

Deposit will be due upon acceptance.

The trip application includes an opportunity to apply for additional financial aid. If you are accepted to the trip, you will be informed of any financial aid awarded at the same time.
