Sailing Lake Erie: Tall Ship Sail School: July 9-24, 2026

Set sail with the crew of the Lettie G. Howard schooner, a National Historic Landmark, as you explore the beauty and majesty of Lake Erie.

About the Trip

You'll step aboard the Lettie, a Sailing School vessel, as a trainee. While onboard the ship, you'll raise and lower the sails, eat meals from the ship’s galley, sleep below deck, and keep lookout with the crew. By becoming an active part of the crew, you’ll learn the skills of traditional square-rig seamanship through sailing, maintaining, and living on the ship. You'll make friends that last a lifetime as you become an integral part of the team, helping the ship make her way from port to port.

Who Should Apply?

  • Age: Girl Scouts must be 14-18 years old at the time of the trip.
  • Interests: Learning traditional sailing
  • Requirements: Basic swimming skills, ability to work as part of a team, and physical ability to work on the ship— including in hot weather and rain.
  • Equipment: Gear will be limited to the essentials! You will need a rain jacket and rain pants and a sleeping bag. A packing list will be provided after acceptance.
  • Ignite Your Passion! This trip is great for Girl Scouts who are ready to step outside their comfort zone and learn a new skill.
