Voices of Kusafiri: A Girl Scout Journey to Ghana: July 30-August 11, 2026

Discover the heart of Ghana and the spirit of Kusafiri. Bring new perspectives home to spark change in your community.

About the Trip

Girls will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to Kusafiri, the WAGGGS World Centre in Africa, where they’ll immerse themselves in rich cultural traditions, breathtaking landscapes, and global sisterhood.

At Kusafiri, Girl Scouts will dive into hands-on cultural discovery activities, take part in an authentic African cooking class, explore the vibrant natural surroundings, and deepen their understanding of the WAGGGS mission and movement.

Beyond Kusafiri, the journey continues with a guided exploration of Ghana’s bustling capital, Accra, followed by a regional adventure planned and led by girls. Options include everything from hikes to waterfalls, visiting eco-gardens to national parks and beautiful beaches.

This unforgettable experience will inspire confidence, curiosity, and global awareness in every girl.

Who Should Apply?

  • Age: Girl Scouts should be entering 10th grade - 12th grade in Fall 2026, or graduated high school in spring 2026.
  • Requirements: You must have a sense of adventure; traveling to Africa will be a culture shock to many participants. You must be able to lean into the uncomfortable and be ready to try new things. You should have an interest in self-reflection and an open mind to learn about many perspectives, cultures, and customs.
  • Equipment: You will need a passport and visa (information will be provided.) You will need vaccines recommended by the CDC and your doctor. A specific packing list will be developed by girls leading up to the trip.
  • Ignite your passion: This trip is great for Girl Scouts who thrive on adventure and culture, and want to make a difference in their community.

The Cost

Total value of the experience: $2,500

Thanks to generous Girl Scout donors to the Juliette Gordon Low World Friendship Fund, we are excited to share that each participant accepted to this trip will receive a 40% discount, reducing the cost by $1,000. No extra steps needed — the grant is automatically applied once you're accepted!

You pay: $1,500

The program fee does not include airfare. Girl Scouts will need to arrange transportation to a central meeting location (to be determined) and all will purchase tickets to fly to Ghana as a group.

Deposit due upon acceptance: $400. (This deposit is included in your program fee.)

Final payment due: May 1, 2026

Cancellation policy: April 1, 2026 is the last day you can cancel and request a refund (minus the deposit). Refunds will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, based on expenses already incurred.
