Girl Scouts of the USA has received a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York to expand access to high quality, nonpartisan civics education for middle school Girl Scouts across the country. Together, we are addressing the urgent need to help young people understand how democracy works, believe their voices matter, and build civic habits early—especially for youth who face barriers to participation in extracurricular programs.
Through this grant, Girl Scouts and Carnegie are developing an immersive, school‑based civics series for Girl Scout Cadettes (grades 6–8), delivered by trained, paid school staff who serve as paid troop leaders in schools. The program will be piloted nationwide, combining hands‑on civic learning, leadership development, and real‑world civic experiences that help girls see themselves as informed, capable participants in their communities and our democracy.
About Carnegie Corporation of New York:
Carnegie Corporation of New York was established by Andrew Carnegie in 1911 to promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding.
